With a lifelong (pedantic!) love of words, I specialise in polishing your text to ensure perfect English while maintaining your unique voice.
Specialist, technical, detail-oriented businesses can’t afford errors in their written communications. Whatever the flaw – errors re: “their”, “there” & “they’re”, confusion over articles, unintentionally comical mistranslations – tiny mistakes can jolt the reader out of the text. Now they’re thinking that your eye for detail is off and maybe they’re even laughing at you – that’s not good for business.
Then there are the differences between UK English, US English, Australian English, and so on, depending on which audience you’re pitching at.
Most people know how to use a spellchecker but real proofreading needs more than that. (Seriously. Take the last thing you wrote over 500 words and spellcheck it with, say, MS Word and then Google Docs – they’ll pick up different issues!)
Grammar, syntax, spelling… most people think that these are right and wrong issues; that there’s only ever one ‘correct’ answer. And spellcheckers and AI would agree.
But the English language is much more flexible, and much more nuanced than that. In fact, it’s constantly evolving.
Only having a single ‘right way’ to say things results in everything sounding the same, which is fatal if you’re a business that needs to stand out from the competition.
Who are you?
- You have a technical business (e.g. IT/software development).
- You want content that is ‘better than AI’ because you have a distinctive brand.
- You produce your own content but it needs checking, correcting and polishing.
- You need a fast turnaround so you can post your text while it’s still fresh.
Proofreading is especially important for non-English businesses that need to communicate with an English-speaking marketplace.
No doubt you have many fluent speakers on the team but speaking and writing are two different disciplines. If you want to be taken seriously as a professional business, your written comms must be flawless; especially if your business is technical.
I work with medium to large businesses with English-speaking client bases that need to be seen as professional, precise, and detail-oriented.
I have 15 years and counting as a freelance professional proofreader (and editor and writer).
I work with academic and business clients – from one-off commissions to long-term relationships – to ensure they can feel confident in their distinctive marketing, communications, and branding that speaks directly to their target market.

PROCESS:
When proofreading, I check:
- grammar
- spelling
- punctuation
- syntax
- overall sense & coherence
Texts can be in MS Word or PowerPoint, Google Docs, or any other format within reason.
I mark your text with all changes and suggestions using Track Changes (or similar) so you can see exactly what’s been altered and choose what to accept. Where necessary, additional comments are added in the margins (e.g. if something isn’t clear, or perhaps there are two options that require an explanation.)
Texts might be blog articles, social media posts, presentations, white papers, user guides, sales emails, or (e)books. Any text up to 10,000 words, I return to you fully checked within 24 hours (not including weekends).
If you’re a technical or specialist business with an individual voice, looking to engage with an English-speaking audience, let’s talk about how I can support your comms across the board.
